LiveBoot is a boot animation that shows logcat and dmesg outputs on the screen as they happen. The output configuration includes the logcat level, the buffer and the format selection; whether to show dmesg; the amount of lines that should fit the screen, whether to use word wrap, and whether the output should be color-coded. Additionally, the background can be set to transparent to overlay the existing startup animation, which looks great when starting up. A function is built in to test the current configuration without rebooting. The lines shown in test mode can be limited and relatively static, this does not reflect the exact behavior of the startup time as it just shows that it works and how big the text will be.

Note that LiveBoot will only appear after mounting the data partition. If you need to enter a decryption key or pattern on startup, it won’t show up until you’ve done so. This app not only requires root, it specifically requires SuperSU version 2.40 or later, or a recent Magisk, due to how the boot code is launched. Alternatively, the app will try to work for otherwise rooted firmwares that support init.d, but this is not officially supported and cannot be guaranteed to work.
